More than 9000 Hino Motor drivers could be eligible to sue that Japanese car manufacturer. Shine Lawyers is investigating whether Hino Motors has misreported critical engine performance data, including durability, fuel efficiency, and emissions, for a range of Hino diesel vehicles. The investigation focuses on potential long-term misconduct by Hino Motors, Ltd, the Japanese company that manufactures the vehicles.
“Our firm intends to allege that this misreporting was part of an ongoing pattern of misconduct, which may have affected vehicle owners and lessees across New Zealand.”
“The alleged misconduct includes falsification of data on fuel efficient and emissions testing in order for Hino vehicles to achieve certification in Japan, a failure to meet New Zealand certification requirements, deceptive and misleading conduct to Hino purchasers and alleged breaches of consumer laws.”
“We estimate there are potentially 7500 new vehicles and 2000 used vehicles included in this claim.”
“The vehicles in our investigation include both new and used models from the 300, 500, and 700 series, as well as used Dutro and Ranger models with diesel engines produced between 2010 and 2022,” said Hamish Davies, Shine Lawyers’ Special Counsel for class actions.
The car maker admitted in 2022 to falsifying data on fuel efficiency and emissions testing to secure vehicle certification in Japan.
“If you currently own or lease, or have previously owned or leased, a Hino Motors diesel vehicle in New Zealand manufactured between 2010 and 2022, you may be eligible to register your interest in the investigation,” said Davies.
